Optimizer
I studied Operations Research in college and became fascinated by mathematical optimization: the same techniques can solve problems across domains. One technique — Integer Linear Programming (ILP) — is used today to solve consequential resource allocation problems: managing billions in investment portfolios, scheduling thousands of workers, coordinating global supply chains. In 2026, a new resource allocation problem became front and center among my friends: how to choose only 6 Pokémon in the re-release of FireRed and LeafGreen?
